The solo in “Time” is one of my favorites, makes me play the air guitar

It’s not that Gilmour played slowly, he was a master at phrasing and always served the song…

The second/outro solo in Comfortably Numb always gives me chill bumps, no matter how many times I hear it.

Shredders who have the chops from grinding years to master their instrument are respected, especially by other musicians. People who can talk directly to your soul without ever saying a word are loved universally.

Not necessarily slowly... but he sings with his guitar. And he has a fucking beautiful voice with it.

Also his actual voice is top tier in rock and roll.

I mean, Gilmour doesn’t actually play slow all the time, he just doesn’t shred.

Listening and emulating Gilmour taught me how to " sing" a solo and greatly improved my own style.

I'm just starting out learning lead guitar (had 5 lessons so far), and Gilmour is the first soloist my teacher has me doing. He has me working on the solos from Comfortably Numb. The reason for this is that he knows I love Gilmour, and he thinks it's a great place to start learning bends. He knows I know my theory already (classically trained pianist), so he wants me to focus on hearing the feeling for now. I'm loving this! I will work my way up to speed solos later.

Ive played guitar my whole life and playing gilmour solos is such a beautiful experience. Ive been chasing the dragon of gilmour tone for 20 years.

Gilmour is way more than slow, even more than melodic. He replicates the emotional human voice. IMO, David's greatest solo is the best example of this. It's on the Animals album in the song Dogs at about 5:28. It is painful to listen to; it actually creates in me the hopelessness and anguish and darkness of the entire song as his guitar sobs, wails and groans in pain. But that couple minutes of this particular solo (starting with Roger's descent, Nick's bullet triplet and Dave's first razor-sharp note bursting from a slow quiet drone) stabs a knife in my heart and makes me tear up every time. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen, or several. As with all of David's work, there's so much in it. The Gilmour Effect is his recreation of human emotion and voice intonation with his guitar, his heart, and his unique talent.

Each one of Gilmour's notes on the guitar can break your heart. Or cheer you up, make you cry. The begining of Coming back to Life make me cry every time I hear it. His playing give me goosebumps. I just ❤ him.

Gilmour is a precise solo machine. He bends with such a natural way that you can even think that it is a blend and makes melodies so smooth

Gilmour is more about achieving tone through his fingers than anything else. My favorite guitarist of all time

I've had countless discussions with Philadelphia area guitarist Dave Doyle about how DG also uses different length pauses to use silence as it's own note. That, and your perfect description with his effect of play speed is exactly why he's our favorite as well. Thank you for everything you do. Always.

There's something magical about the way Gilmour weaves his solos through time.
