Real, as a general percussionist, who plays mallets mostly, I’m one of the only ones who both enjoys it and is good at it. It sucks, but is quite rewarding. Most people saying they hate mallets, if you get a chance to pick, take them every now and then, then you can do almost all of the parts, besides timpani. It makes it much easier, and keeps you off of aux for the most part.

We have this guy in our high school's highest concert band. I found out he WAS the mallet percussion. Like, he was DCI-ing this. He's surrounded by 4 different mallet percussion instruments and is making the smoothest transitions known to man and I'm watching flabbergasted like "bro why aren't you in Carolina Crown or getting paid for this"

As a percussionist I was the kid on bells. I hated drums and was put on mallets for everything. The more I watch this the more it makes me think I’m the weird one

Our precussionists would spend over an hour arguing who does the drum kit and who does Bells, my band teacher made them have one piece with bells and another with the drum kit, alternating through music pieces

I loved mallet percussion. Because of a band director that encouraged me when I was younger I ended up being the principal mallet percussionist in high school and in an outside ensemble group. I miss playing so much and have been trying to find a group I can join

In my school, 6th grade band percussion plays whatever, and I ALWAYS wanted to be bells. Now, in the 7th and 8th grade bands, we have people who always play bells (mallet percussion) and people who play other percussion instruments (battery percussion)

Any bell or marimba was given to the only guy who was in the marching band. The bad part was that my friend and I usually had 4 instruments to play, and we were always paired together to play them.

I respect the kid who is okay with playing the mallet part as a percussionist. I honestly like playing mallets. I would rather play mallets over bass drum. 👍 edit: woah 3k likes in a week crazy tysm
