Are they, though? Certifications is vastly more complicated, and telephony standards are still poorly regulated. They’d have to make so many models to meet local frequency allocations, etc. Boox is a dominant player in a relatively small, niche market. Would an e-ink phone sell well enough to justify the initial investment? When I look at how most people use their LCD ‘phones, I don’t see them interested in a distraction-free environment- they’re addicted to video, games and social media that are the polar opposite of what is driving people like us to e-ink. Also, does Boox have the economic muscle to ramp up production fast enough if it did? I don’t pretend to have any answers, but I have my doubts that it’s going to happen unless they partner with an existing player, like Umidigi or Huawei.
