The polarized lens thing is so much more than just a "neat fact". It is a glimpse into the completely logic and physics-defying properties of light. Light is one of the most interesting things in the universe short of entangled quantum particles and observer effect experiments, in my humble and unschooled opinion.

In the second case, something called Malus's(?) Law is applicable. These plastic sheets are polaroids, which means they polarise light, which is a fancy way of saying it aligns light waves in a single direction. If one polaroid sheet is at an angle theta to the other sheet, the cosine theta component of amplitude of light waves passes through the second polaroid. Since intensity is directly proportional to the square of amplitude, intensity of light passing through polaroid scales as cos^2(theta). Since on the forst case both sheets were perpendicular, no light passed through ( cosπ/2=0 ). In the second case, all sheets were at angles =/= π/2 w.r.t each other, so some light passed through, and we could see to the other side😊

As you can tell, I trim down each round from the full episodes to fit them into shorts. I'd love for you to check out the full video if you want to see more rounds with explanations! There's a playlist with all 20 episodes (60 rounds)! Thanks for watching!
