Okay but seriously? Im so glad this is being talked about! Puberty hit me lile a TRUCK dude. One of the first times i really had a problem with odor we were in the middle of watching a movie and it smelt like hot garbage cause i had just gotten out of PE and changed back into my regular clothes (which i didnt have alot of so it was usually wearing the same clothes for like a week) and the guy next to me pointed it out so i snapped my legs shut. Thank god i cried to my mom when i got home and we had a good talk about personal hygiene and that i didnt have to worry about the cost of laundry detergent and to just wash my clothes when i was low and to not feel ashamed cause "hell, even the prettiest of coochies smells every so often!" Lmfao. My mom made growing up so awkward but man.... She made it worth it

I was so mad as a tween that my dad never let me wear the popular styles “because they’re not real leather and cause foot fungus.” 😒 He would only let me wear breathable sneakers or buy me real leather shoes and spray them constantly because he didn’t want my feet to stink. I felt like a square at the time but in hindsight I’m glad he never let me go to school smelling musty. I got picked on for a few things but my smell was never one of them

I don't know if anyone cares about this story but I feel this is the place to tell it. I was out one night in about 2009 and I was drunk and dancing on a bar. I was having the time of my life. There were 3 cute boys watching me and my friends dancing and they approached the bar. They stood there watching us for a couple of minutes and then all of a sudden, all of the had the most disgusted looks on their faces. I knew straight away. It was my feet..... or should I say my shoes. They were FOUL!! I was devastated. The boys walked away and I got off the bar and called a taxi and went home. I threw my cute cheap shoes in the bin and I have NEVER worn pleather shoes since. I thought it was just me that had this problem. I feel so validated right now.

A tip for permanent smell clothes. Do a wash with just white vinegar first. Followed by a wash with baking soda, both in hot water if the fabric can handle it. Then you can wash in the washer with your regular detergent softener whatever. It is a little wasteful on resources unfortunately, but you don’t have to do it every time either. Again hot water if the fabric can handle that. This is what I do when I wash my dogs blankets for their beds and it gets the smell out EVERY TIME ❤

Anyone looking to remove odor from their shoes:
- dry them out (stuffing them with newspaper initially can help too, particularly in humid places)
- wash your laces and socks with a laundry sanitizer
- use a fabric sanitizer
- baking soda, baking soda works WONDERS. Put it in an old pair of socks, tie the ends, shove them in your shoes. Cat litter can also be used to this end
- spray with white vinegar then let dry
- put laundry sheets or air fresheners in them when you leave them for a long time (hint, laundry sheets are cheaper in the long run, change when the smell starts to go)
- leave the insoles in the sun (and/or the whole shoe, but be careful because the sun can bleach dyed material and damage leather)
- clean leather with a leather cleaner, multiple times then condition and seal the gosh darned things (oil and wax them, helps prevent them absorbing non-foot smelly stuff)
- worst case? Take out the insole and scrub with a pet smell cleaner and deodorizer
Prevention:
- wear socks whenever possible (the barrier helps, with flats you can add a menstrual pad and/or liners to make a barrier between your feet and the shoes)
- always let your shoes dry fully before wearing again (ie let all the foot sweat dry out too)
- use the sock baking soda bags, you can make smaller ones with baby socks. Untie and replace the baking soda every three months or so. Otherwise keep a shoe deodorizer ball in them.
- toss a laundry sheet and deodorizer into shoes that will be sitting for a while or are going into storage. Bonus points if you do that with all shoes, I never have the patience.
- wash your laces every 1-3 months if you wear the shoes fairly regularly
- spray the inside with a sanitizing spray once a week then let dry fully (if you sweat a lot, use a pet or shoe deodorizer AND sanitizer; if you don’t, something milder like fabreeze fabric sanitizer or even just a white vinegar spray is probably sufficient)
- clean your shoes somewhat regularly (particularly leather. Take good care of your leather or wood products - dry wipe, clean, condition, seal every time you clean them)

I used to be mortified by my smelly feet and flats, so I kept them on when visiting my (abusive) ex. He bothered me one day, telling me to take my shoes off and I kept saying no my feet stink. Ofc he didn't respect me and my decisions, so he took them off and smelled them and I will never forget his face 😂!! It was pure horror sprinkled with disgust and confusion... he deserved every stinkin' second of that

To anyone that doesn't know, a cup of distilled white vinegar will kill all the bad odor bacteria without leaving any scent of vinegar. I use it every wash. Your cloths will always be fresh.
