There is a truth to this.. knew a SGTMAJ (1st sgt then) who was career Fleet Marine Recon and worked with MARSOC/SOC.. He wasn't a huge guy.. in fact he was this wirey lean muscled guy who had endurance for days.. He would bike to work from home every day.. the guys who are doing this for a living have to be able to continuously go when most people are done..

For what these guys have to do it does not pay to be big and huge You want to have a moderate amount of muscle and get a strong and have as much endurance as you can at that level. You need to be tough not huge. I couldn't do it I have no illusions about that.

Smaller guys can conceal better too. Trees in an area might be big enough to hide behind for one guy and not the other. You might need to crawl through a crack in the rocks. If you're too big you can't sit there and wait to lose 50 lbs. You'll also need more food to fuel a larger body. Mileage may vary.

More muscle makes you a bigger slower target but people are used to being told what they want to hear over what they need to hear

I always thought you wouldn't want to be big and muscular for the sake of blending in. If your mission is to blend into a poverty stricken population and you come in looking like Mr. Olympia, I don't think you're fooling anyone.

I wouldnโ€™t want to be over 6ft in a firefight. Iโ€™m 5,10 but boy can get low and scoot around.

Physically, 22 SAS (+ 23 & 21) look remarkably average. But they are fit as fk.

Being big and muscular is a hindrance unless your name is Dale Cumsock

I'm a retired Green Beret, and I have many buddies who went to Delta. I am 5'7" and never weighed more than 140 lbs. The bigger guys had problems with endurance when we were moving for 3 days with heavy rucksacks or through the mountains on skis. Too much size and muscle is absolutely a handicap. His reference to the infamous SAS Bravo 20 mission is spot on. The only team member who made it out without being captured that he referred to, Chris Ryan, wrote a book about it, which I recommend.

At my peak at 24 years old at 182 lb and 5% body fat from a competition I might have been able to keep up with these guys I could run a mile in under 5 minutes but that second mile is more like 10. That was the best shape I'd ever been in by far and I honestly don't think I could keep up with what these guys do. I get hypoglycemic too easy!! These guys are awesome there's no two ways about it

More muscle means your body gets depleted oxygen levels quicker.

This is so anti British but also UNTRUE how does it benefit anyone to be told things that makes us when we find out depressed and despondent? The SAS showed that what matters is endurance and they were NOT rescued.
