That's Amanda Lee. She is the slot pilot for the 2024 Blue Angels. Jet #4. She is tall. The Blue Angels were in my home town in April. I talked to her for a short time. We joked about having a special seat made for her. She was very nice.

I got to see them training before a show in Key West. That was amazing to see. That was an AWESOME place to see them train!! Probably the best place to watch them train!!

This aviator did the Seaman to Admiral program in the Navy, which is phenomenal in itself. It gives hope to every young person who has a dream to fly. You don’t have to be a US Naval Academy graduate to get there. You can start as a civilian.

In the nineties I got a demonstration flight in an F-16 of the Air Force's Thunderbirds demo team for a preview story on an upcoming air show at Libbey Army Airfield in Sierra Vista, AZ. We did many of the maneuvers they would be doing at the show, including shooting up like a rocket pulling seven Gs. Our last 180-degree turn reportedly pulled 10 Gs. When we got to ground I was happy for the experience and glad it would be the first and last time. I have no idea how these pilots do it multiple times a day for days on end because I felt like I had been in King Kong's fist and he would squeeze me until I was about to pass out and let me go long enough to catch my breath and let the blood back in my brain before doing it again and again for the next 45 minutes. I was told their biggest occupational health hazard was hemorrhoids.

God bless them all but the one thing that's always impressed upon me each time I see one of them speak... is just how VERY sober, piercing, focused and, almost, dead their eyes appear to be. It's as if there's only one thing going through their mind at that particular moment and that is something I can hardly fathom.
