Our revolutionary heroes who actually did the fighting against Spain actually loved Spain. Of course, they hated the oppression of the empire, but at the same time they loved the culture, the language, and the people.
They knew enough to know the distinction between the empire and the country as a whole.
For example, the world consume American media and products. Emulate its culture. That doesn't mean they agree with every foreign policy decision.
There are many reasons for Filipinos to learn Spanish, none of them are negative.
