David Milgaard's case is a profound example of a miscarriage of justice. At 16, he was implicated in the 1969 murder of Gail Miller in Saskatoon. Despite a lack of concrete evidence, coerced witness statements led to his wrongful conviction. His mother, Joyce Milgaard, embarked on a relentless campaign for his exoneration, challenging the judicial system's flaws. After decades of struggle, new DNA evidence emerged, conclusively proving Milgaard's innocence and implicating Larry Fisher, the actual perpetrator. Milgaard's eventual release in 1992 sparked nationwide discussions on wrongful convictions. His advocacy for legal reforms continued until his death in 2022.
