As the part of 0.50% Majority of the Bedrock Community who has beaten the Elder Guardian, The deaths are inevitable
You can die by drowning 'cause by being stuck at the monument with mining fatigue for 3 minutes, and once the effects wared off, the elder guardian will immedietly give the effect again
Edit: This is my own thought, you should use honey blocks to clear the water since you can break honey block in one tick even when you got mining fatigue
