Took weeks in hospital to get Adult onset Epilepsy diagnosis. 1 was transferred to a "Mental and Behavioral facility " to evaluate effectiveness of (new lifetime) medications. My mother and Father flew in from 2 different states during this time and then my husband pulled me out after 2 weeks. MEN & WOMAN in same facility & security presence is helpful but no safety in no locked rooms all night day or even in a bathroom. She's exactly right no dignity. Prisoners mixed with me & others like a grown man who thought he was a child and lived in only a diaper like a toddler. He entered my room- they advised to ignore him. My husband removed me - thank you Tennessee for rights of citizens.

After graduating high school in 1960, a dear friend and neighbor was put into an institution such as this. I had another girlfriend who chummed around with us and we went to visit her and it was indeed a very sad situation seeing people just sitting there like lumps doing nothing but staring around. It was awful.

Itās far more common that our community cares to admit. Thats a huge part of the problem. Itās degrading if you arenāt shown the value and purpose of being kept safe when you canāt do it alone. That hospital, those rules, those fellow patients, all shluchim of Hashem to teach and help you overcome. Believe me I went through it and more. Itās ALL about perspective. Life doesnāt happen to us it happens for us ā¤ stay strong and allow Hashem into the hardest most trauma filled points and you will see healing where you couldnāt believe it possible.

How true! I am the Mother/Carer of my 35 year old daughter, who has endured Bipolar Type 1, BPD, Eating Disorder ā¦. the list goes on! Lost count of how many necessary, but mostly unnecessary, times she has been ādehumanisedā when āSectionedā. Lost count on how many many months hospitalised (private mental hospitals call it āvoluntaryā but I have another name for it!! That is why I am also her legal Guardian to ensure I am ultimately in control of my own daughter. Mental hospitals serve a great purpose. But they are also a Cesspool for drug deals, dubious friendships made when āin hospitalā that cause havoc when they spill out into āreal lifeā, usually āsupervisedā by under qualified nurses, burnt out psychiatrists, and sadly, usually no constructive realisable individualised plan of action on discharge, more often than not without access to any new medication prescribed āin hospitalā!
I will fight until the end before putting my daughter through any of this ever again!! We have our own Specialists that WE chose and with a little help from āABOVEā, we live day to day!
