Meet Sirish Subash, a ninth-grader from Snellville, Georgia, who bagged the title of America's Top Young Scientist. Sirish developed PestiSCAND, a portable device that quickly and accurately spots pesticide residue on fresh produce.
Using spectrophotometry (fancy science!), PestiSCAND reads the light bouncing off produce to spot pesticide traces with 85%+ accuracy. And here’s the awesome part: Sirish wants to make it affordable, aiming for just $20!
