I had seen you mention this in an older video and I could never get it to work, then just kind of forgot about it. I finally realized what I was doing wrong. I wasn't putting the game on a flat surface, I was trying to click the disc in while holding it and that doesn't work. Putting it on a flat surface did the trick. I've had like 6 sealed games sitting on my shelf with loose discs, most of which have been sitting there for years now and I finally got them reseated properly. Thanks for this!

It pisses me off EVERY TIME retailers do this to me, and I’ve only been successful with puttin’ the disc back on the spindle thru the unopened case two or three times. Gotta keep this knowledge in my pocket.

Yep - this has been around since the PS4, likely because PS is basically using the same cases. It’s been a known defect in the mold for years.
No need for a light though, if you carefully jostle lightly and in a circular motion, eventually you’ll hear the disc stop rattling. That’s when you know it’s positioned to snap in place.

Great video. But I think ultimately unless you have an intention of selling it, just open it up. Its the easiest way.
Not only is it a lot less easy than he makes it sound, I would also be more concerned that when trying to phenangle it around, that it scuffs up the inner ring of the disc.

The back label of the case, or whatever you call it, can get damaged from this though by the underside of the button - it has around 6 small pointy bits on it that can almost pierce through the paper and plastic

It works if the spindle is still intact. But sometimes the plastic is broken. Doesn’t happen that often anymore with PS4/5 cases because they have two or three big pieces that hold the spindle. But used to happen a lot when the spindle was made up of many tiny pieces

Whenever I resell and ship games I always add a little square of bubble wrap in the center. It won't let the disc pop out and dance around

I'd say 9/10 brand new PS4/PS5 games I've ever bought have had this issue. I'll never forget picking up the PS4 version of GTA 5 on release day just for the disc to flop onto the ground the instant I opened up the game case for the very first time.
