Yes sir, it’s an easy way for me to tell that the customer hired a non licensed person or uneducated in proper work to do electrical repairs in their house
At this point I know to watch out when doing anything electrical for them and to not believe the customer when they deny it
At this point I use my hourly rate which I double before I start any work
Sometimes I just have to leave because I find ground wire in Romex connected to plastic boxes with 120v on it and the customer doesn’t want me to address it first before installing a new device or troubleshooting
It’s really insane as well as such a fire hazard to have 120v possibly floating around on the grounding system just looking for a path
That is really “ objectionable voltage and current “
Thanks Mike

This reminds me of something we needed to fix recently on a site where we needed to go around grounding everything in an older residential.
One of the light switch boxes had a neutral bonded to the box (metal). Also found a light switch box on the same breaker (which fed switched power to a nearby outlet) where the neutral wires were fried at the switch. Fixing that and removing the bonding on the other fixed everything.
Can you imagine?
"Can't find the short, dont want to check everything on 19 again... screw it, run the neutral through the box, all goes to the same place anyhow!" 😂😂
I'm surprised the house didn't burn down before we got to i
