I hope you figure out the DEF system on the Ram. It’s the part giving you issues not the rest of it.
The Cummins engine is rated for one million miles as long as you do the maintenance.
I would try one of the diesel Ram forums before you give up on it.
You’ll never get a Toyota with a drivetrain that is that heavy duty.
Maybe get a Ram dealership to sponsor you? A place that loves trucks. 😬

FYI, Ihave experienced the same problem twice. At first I thought it was because the DEF froze. DEF freezes at 12 degrees and it had been single diget, even minus temps for a week, each time. Maybe there is a relationship but the DEF tank is suppose to have a heating element. Anyway, after the second occurance I took my RAM to the dealer. I was told that my problem was not freezing but low quality DEF. It crystalizes in the line. They told me (under their breath) always use Blue DEF Brand. I have ever since and the warning hasn't come back on. How I ended up clearing the warning both times was driving the truck for 100-125 miles. It seemed to wash the crystals away. Good luck.
