FYI, Ihave experienced the same problem twice. At first I thought it was because the DEF froze. DEF freezes at 12 degrees and it had been single diget, even minus temps for a week, each time. Maybe there is a relationship but the DEF tank is suppose to have a heating element. Anyway, after the second occurance I took my RAM to the dealer. I was told that my problem was not freezing but low quality DEF. It crystalizes in the line. They told me (under their breath) always use Blue DEF Brand. I have ever since and the warning hasn't come back on. How I ended up clearing the warning both times was driving the truck for 100-125 miles. It seemed to wash the crystals away. Good luck.

A F250 gas owner here. It's a 2003 and it gives me no trouble .. surprisingly. It's a full time camper truck. While a diesel would be nice, until I travel a lot more, the cost of a diesel does not make sense.
Safe travels.

I don't have diesel, but I hear that you'll probably need your Phd to understand DEF expiration dates. Sounds like a fun trip. As for the Toyota, Joni Mitchell said it best "you don't what you've got till it's gone" safe travels.

I started looking for a truck the same time you did. I wound up getting a Toyota Tacoma. My needs aren’t the same as yours, but my mechanic told me between the Colorado the canyon and the Tacoma the latter is the best choice because of its reliability. Good luck

I was saddened after you dumped the Toyota. Either way that should be a top priority to bring back the Toy😊

I hope you figure out the DEF system on the Ram. It’s the part giving you issues not the rest of it.

The Cummins engine is rated for one million miles as long as you do the maintenance.

I would try one of the diesel Ram forums before you give up on it.

You’ll never get a Toyota with a drivetrain that is that heavy duty.

Maybe get a Ram dealership to sponsor you? A place that loves trucks. 😬

What is the verdict on the Ram?

Modern diesels and cold temperatures are terribly unreliable. I just got back from a 2000 mile road trip with a gas truck and saw four HD trucks on the side of the interstate with trailers behind them.

Oh nooo sorry to hear about the ram issues!

Only problem is Toyota does not make anything HD. Wish they did. Modern campers are so heavy like the Lance 1172 the diesel becomes questionable. The purchase price, price of DEF and repair costs when needed.

Gassers are simpler, more reliable, and very refined these days. If you get a Tundra, double-check the GVWR.
