Yeah, in all honesty I have to admit that I haven't ever listened to a lot of Mastodon music, but I am well aware of who they are as a very good friend of mine whose a well seasoned very damn good bass player turned me on to them quite awhile back, and on another note, I was kinda surprised at what I found out about them, and heard, because I was expecting the Christian rock band by the same name??? But I guess they no longer existed or something, because I looked into it, and couldn't find them anymore!!! But back to this Mastodon, the thing I really wanted to say about them is that even though I really haven't ever listened to them a lot (and the reason is because the material I heard back then seemed to be predominantly instrumental music without much vocals to it if I remember correctly??? But I like instrumental music, just not full length albums of it, but I really need to give them a second listen or two before I can really be a critic to much, but on the critical side of things, I will admit that what I remember about Mastodon is that they're definitely not a "SLOUCH" type of band, but very well highly intelligent and damn good musicians creating it, and definitely "PROGRESSIVE" smart music!!! And the drummer, and the rest are absolutely some of the best in the business of making intelligent music!!! Not very easy stuff for someone else to play unless they too are very talented and taught how to play very well with whatever instrument they play, whether school educated or self taught!!!
