Trailer Collection for Nintendementia's 2014 Movie Review Schedule
44 videos • 122 views • by Nintendementia Alrighty, here's the playlist of trailers for Nintendementia's 2014 review line up, which includes multiple instances of flicks that either never had a trailer, or simply never had one uploaded to Youtube on the basis that the movie's are so bad that they've since replaced waterboarding as the torture technique of choice at Guantanamo Bay. In those instances, I've simply linked to the entire movie, since they're mostly public domain titles. By 2014 I'd developed much better self control with regard to focusing on movies that weren't as widely known to the general public, with the hope being that in 15 years I might still have a few left for a rainy day. You'll notice that in this list, only about one in three titles is something a Starbucks patron will have heard of, even though dedicated genre fans are likely familiar with the vast majority. I always wonder if the average person would rather read about something they've never seen, or whether they'd prefer to hear about titles they're familiar with so the jokes make more sense, but ultimately this is the model I've chosen to follow. My position has since transitioned to the idea that there's little sense in reviewing the extremely popular titles, because a whole lotta reviews have already been written for 'em by people far more talented than I, and that my attention would be better utilized on flicks where folks could benefit from a painfully in-depth analysis that'll help 'em decide whether a movie is one they'd like to see. This was also the year where I modified my format to include the opening monologue with an "events of the week" style retellin' of what's been goin' on in my neck of the woods. The first title to include this change is Gargoyles, and I've been gosspin' pretty regular since that point. It's also the first year I started writin' about public domain titles, with the first one bein' Roger Corman's immortal; Creature from the Haunted Sea, which is a pretty painful exercise in cinematic stamina if you hadn't ever seen it. All-in-all I did 11 public domain titles in 2014, with titles ranging from The Devil's Daughter (my single most unpleasant cinematic experience to date, receiving an impressive 7% rating) to Don't Look in the Basement (which is pretty dang good in general, and exceptional for a public domain flick). It's a much better range of titles in my opinion than in the two previous years, as the list includes more hybrid titles that like Star Crystal (horror/sci fi), Motel Hell (horror/comedy), and Equinox (horror/fantasy). There're also a few made for TV titles like The Intruder Within and Gargoyles, and a pretty decent number of foreign titles, ranging from British, to Italian, to Filipino titles, so in general the title selection, I think, was pretty good. That's about all I got to mention as far as changes, so if you're interested in readin' about these classic horror/science fiction/fantasy type movies, the reviews're all up on my website, which is: http://nintendementia.com/ You can also like the Facebook page to see what's next in the queue, and get updates about when new reviews go up.
