Sperrin Mountains
24 videos • 955 views • by Walking & Wild Camping In Ireland The Sperrins are the largest upland area in Northern Ireland, a range of hills and mountains radiating from the heart of Ulster. The Sperrins may not have the drama and excitement of brasher neighbours in Donegal or the Mournes but they have a quieter, understated presence which finds a way of settling in the heart. Rolling hills with gentle valleys are the order of the day, with the Glenelly Valley being the longest and most impressive as it tracks a long line of mountains heading west. The northern reach of the Sperrins follows the Roe Valley and here more imposing faces of hillside and cliff climb skyward and are a joy to explore. With their central position the views from the Sperrins are far reaching across Ireland from east to west. On a clear day the Antrim and Belfast Hills and the Mournes to the east are easily in sight and to the west the mountains of Donegal. The Sperrins are a place where it is rare to meet another person on the hillside, although it is a pleasure to do so and know that others have discovered this special place.
