When the kingdom of Pars falls to an invasion from their neighboring, god-faring Kingdom of Lusitania, it's up to Arslan, the crown prince, to rebuild his kingdoms Army and retake their freedom from the Lusitanians. However, his journey won't be easy as he faces against Lusitanians, other invading kingdoms, and conspiracies abound. Arslan's only hope is to pull together a group of the most powerful and intelligent individuals in hopes of turning the tides and saving his country. And so the boy would become king. The soundtrack is composed by Taro Iwashiro. I may be getting presumptuous, but for me Taro Iwashiro doesn’t need any introduction. He’s been active since the early 90s at least and his music has been featured on television series, games and movies. He’s not very prolific though so it’s happy times when his name is actually featured on something new. The score opens with ‘Shounen Wa Soshite Ou To Naru’ a very dramatic opener well suited for a fantasy story. It’s dramatic, but the theme doesn’t automatically resonate with me, and although it’s not bad, it’s just not where I hoped it would be. ‘Frontier Gate’ is a lot better. The theme there really works. It feels heroic and a little bit epic. Now this I can work with. It “clicks” with me right away. Iwashiro mix and match styles in this scores, and every now and then something great come out of it like the vocal ‘Inishie Yori Yoseru Nami’. The score just drips of heroism. It’s a noble quest for our young hero prince and the music absolutely reflect that. I like that there’s a variety as well, there’s more slower cues as well and some uses vocals like the excellent ‘Nagekibito No Inori’. The feeling I am stuck with after listening to the score is sadness. Apart from the heroics, the music felt a bit heavy and sad to me, and that’s what it made me feel. Every score that evokes some emotions inside me is great though, and this certainly did that.
