A Forum on Ethnic Conflict and Democratization in Myanmar
9 videos • 92 views • by Third World Studies Center The forum, "Ethnic Conflict and Myanmar's Problematic Democratization", which is part of the 2014 UP ASEAN Lecture Series, was held last 17 February 2014 (Monday), from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the Claro M. Recto Conference Hall, Faculty Center (Rizal Hall), College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines-Diliman. The public forum featured as speaker Lahpai Seng Raw, a 2013 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and founder of the Metta Development Foundation, a Myanmar non-governmental organization which has helped communities in Myanmar affected by conflicts between the government and ethnic armed groups. Daw Seng Raw talked about ethnic conflict in democratizing Myanmar and her on-the-ground experiences as a peace worker in her country before a public composed of UP students and faculty. The forum also featured as reactor Professor Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, Chair of the GPH Panel of the MILF Peace Table, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and professor of the Department of Political Science, UP Diliman.
