Counting by Weighing - The Mole Concept
3 videos • 9 views • by HoverCraft Physics and Chemistry This playlists presents the mole concept in way that is accessible to high school students. An analogy and demonstration with a certain type of bolt shows how a sample can quickly be counted by weighing. A scaled-up counting unit for the bolt (a "box") is established that would contain 1 kilogram of bolts. This is similar to how the mole unit was established in chemistry. Then, the definition of the mole unit and Avogadro's number is explained. Finally, the a mole of carbon, iron, water, and sodium chloride is measured out to show that the mole is not an intimidating quantity when used to measure chemical quantities.
