Mongolian Music in Harmonics
4 videos • 1 views • by Routes Nomades Imagine for a moment the steppes of Mongolia, at home? There, traditional music is linked to the environment and nomadic philosophy. In the ecology of sound, the Mongols dialogue with nature, whether with their instruments, such as the morin khuur horse fiddle or the tovshuur lute, or with their voices, through praises or throat-singing. Nasanjargal Ganbold (aka Nasaa), a master in the field, comes from the Altai, the cradle of khöömii in Mongolia. Accompanied by Johanni Curtet, specialist in throat-singing in the West, they sing about this nomadic culture through a journey far beyond the mountains, into the wide open spaces. To provide a setting for the vocal art of khöömii, the repertoire will present the imitation of the sonority of nature, praises to the entities that surround us, ancient or contemporary poems, solo instrumental pieces, throat-singing improvisations. It presents a unique encounter between a Mongolian musician and a French ethnomusicologist and musician in quest of harmonics, where the art of khöömii unites them.
