13 videos • 72 views • by Dfactor Pop Time marches on, and now is the time for new rockin’ DIY garage pop from PHX-based rock 'n “Anthems for the Active Set” is the 2019 full-length release from singer-songwriter-rocker Dfactor, and contains 12 new original songs, plus a rockin' cover of the Dave Clark Five hit "Catch Us If You Can". “Anthems for the Active Set” is the second full-length release from Dfactor in as many years. It follows Summer 2018’s “Nostalgia for Now” featuring the popular tracks “Summer’s Here to Stay”, “The Man Who Thinks He Can” and “We May Never Go Home”. From the catchy powerpop opener “Tonight is What We Do” to “So in Crazy Love With You” and “Girl on a Screen”, the new songs highlight Dfactor’s progression from a scrappy punk-influenced indie rocker to a mainstream music maker with a fuller template. The garage rock, powerpop and rock ‘n roll sounds are still there, but they are more interlinked with the overall melodies and song structures. In “Climb a Little Higher”, Dfactor channels his inner Westerberg with a raw, urgent rock ‘n roll song with melodic impulses, and it’s a song he wrote during Super Bowl Sunday in February 2019. Dual guitar leads punctuate the ending of “Summer Winds Down”; acoustic guitars line the basic framework of “It’s Lightning” and “Questions”, and keyboards pop up in parts of the LP’s songs. It’s a happy upbeat pop LP that’s happily out of sync with modern pop music trends. It’s singularly Dfactor-esque, and those fans who’ve followed him from his early days in New York with Anthemic Pop Wonder, to his solo work in Phoenix and band LPs with Action Jets will find those same singable melodies, driving rhythms and rockin’ guitars that’s marked his catalog.
