Escape The 9-5: Build & Sell A WordPress Plugin

5 videos • 10 views • by Phillip Hughes Do you dream about leaving your 9-to-5 job? To live life on your terms? I do! The best way to do this is to create a lifestyle business, to become a solopreneur. To work for yourself. Where you get the biggest upside from your efforts. And the best "business" to help you live life how you want is to create a start-up, a SaaS start-up. To code a software product, and build a digital business. It's easier said than done. But it's the best "vehicle" to reach your "destination" of solopreneurship. The benefits "come as standard". Easy to scale, easy to run, easy to improve. It's not location-dependent. It's even getting to the point where you don't need coding skills to get started. But that does help. However, it's not easy. What do you build? How do you market a SaaS product? How do you get it out to the world? To get people to give you money, again, again and again. That's what I will be sharing in this playlist—my journey and what I'm learning building a start-up. My vehicle of choice is going to be a WordPress plugin. Why this type of software product? Well, there are 472 million WordPress websites out there. So that's a big enough market for me to go after. I've experience in using WordPress. I use it for my blog philh.co.uk. And I've experience in building WordPress plugins for myself. And for a few clients from the freelance work I've done. But, I've never launched a WordPress plugin into the marketing place. It's a project I've wanted to start for a while now. There's no time like the present, eh! The goal? Well, I've got a few. My "lifetime goal" is to have £10 million in assets that put money in my pocket, without me having to work. It's a huge goal, not easy, not easy at all. I'm starting from almost zero. But here's how I'm trying to break it down. To lay out "stepping stones" to help me towards that end goal, the end destination. One of the first stops in my journey is to replace most, if not all the money I earn in my 9-5. Here's what the "map" for my "road trip" looks like: 1) 12 months' worth of business expenses. Target £3K. 2) Pay off all non-mortgage debt. Currently sat at £11,969. 3) 12 months' worth of expenses in savings. Target £36K. 4) Make £3k a month. Then, once I've gone past those waypoints. My next goals are: 1) Make £10K a month, so my wife and I can quit our 9-5's. 2) Pay off our mortgage. So, what's beyond that? Well, it's to enjoy life. I'll be working towards that lifetime goal, but I want to experience as much as I can while doing it. I'd love it if you subscribed and followed along.
