The Artist Talk offers a behind-the scenes look at the concept, construction, and presentation of touchable artworks. Two galleries full of human-sized sculptures made of highly tactile wool and felt were made to invite physical participation from museum visitors. 'Hanging Pods' are twelve mysterious, chrysalis-like forms suspended from a steel framework at perfect hugging height. 'Holdables' are movable, stackable, wearable surrealist forms made of stitched industrial felt. In 'Stephanie Metz: InTouch' visitor interactions with the pieces actually complete the installation. The alluring, touchable objects were first presented at the de Saisset Museum at Santa Clara University in California with an expected run from January - June 2020, but the exhibition was closed four months early due to campus-wide COVID-19 precautions and County Shelter-in-Place orders. This video documentary aims to communicate 'InTouch' to those unable to experience it in person, and anticipates future exhibitions. Additionally, walk-through video tours of the 'Hanging Pods' and 'Holdables' galleries at the museum offer a sense of the in-person experience... without the actual touching.
