Hauled by steam locomotives A² 986 and R761, the tour was the first time steam had operated to Bairnsdale since 2005. It was also the first time an R class has ever been to Bairnsdale due to the now replaced rail bridge over the Avon River at Stratford. Furthermore it had been at least 60 years since an A² had operated past Traralgon. Friday saw the special run from Melbourne to Sale were it stabled for the night. The next day saw local shuttles between Sale and Munro as well shuttles between Sale and Rosedale. On Sunday the train ventured further east to Bairnsdale where it then ran shuttles towards Lindenow South. On Monday the train made the long journey from Bairnsdale back to Melbourne carrying about 3,600 passengers over the 4 days.
