The heaviest rain will be at elevation but will basically be with us through Sunday. There is a Flood Watch that starts for the entire area tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. I expect: 10-12 inches in the Cascades 7-11 inches in the Coast Range and at the Coast 2-5 inches in the western valleys. Rain finally tapers off to showers Monday and Tuesday. Katu.com The Willamette and Columbia water levels may approach the banks, but will likely stay under the flooding range. Forecasts see a potent "atmospheric river" rain event on tap for this weekend. The weather system is also known as a "Pineapple Express" for its origins in the warm, wet air of the tropics. "The Coast Range, foothills and Cascades are expected to see in the range of 6 to 12 inches of rain," forecasters said. The Oregon Coast could see around 4 to 8 inches by Monday, with 2 to 5 inches in the Willamette Valley. Flooding isn't the only concern. State geologists also warned of increased potential for landslides. "Excessive rainfall has the potential to create landslides, debris flows and excessive runoff in the vicinity of recent wildfire burn scars," the weather service said. "Landslides will be a reality in future major flood events," says Bill Burns, engineering geologist with the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries. "And because Oregon's population is growing, more people, places and property may be at risk." https://plus.google.com/1025184805157...
