Students are to learn the solos by ear, note by note, and commit them to memory. Accuracy and style are essential. Speed does not matter. The speed will come as technique develops. Once completed, students perform their transcription in front of the class and write the tune, artist and date in their transcription log. It is expected that students aim to have completed and performed 50 transcriptions prior to graduating from the Carlmont Jazz Ensemble.
