WHATEVER GETS YOU THROUGH THE NIGHT
9 videos • 255 views • by by Daniel Warren These films form part of the Whatever Gets You Through the Night project created by award-winning director Cora Bisset, acclaimed playwright David Greig and musicians Swimmer One. Shot in locations throughout Scotland, including Loch Lomond, Orkney and the studios and nightclubs of Edinburgh and Glasgow, the films focus on the early development of the music that would eventually become a part of the finished performance by Emma Pollock, Swimmer One, Withered Hand, Cora Bissett, Wounded Knee, Bigg Taj, Eugene Kelly, Rachel Sermanni, Errors and Talkingmakesnosense. The project also resulted a 16-track album, a live show performed at The Arches, Glasgow and Queen's Hall, Edinburgh and a limited edition 32-page book featuring lyrics and writing by the musicians and writers involved. All of the above were created from the same raw material - new work by over two dozen of Scotland's most distinctive writers and musicians, all of whom were invited to create something inspired by the hours between midnight and 4am. "...like we are witnessing a celebration of the creative process itself." Jamie Dunn - The Skinny "Musical highlights are many – the sultry 60s-style balladry of Emma Pollock’s Dark Skies; the sleepy romanticism of Rachel Sermanni’s Lonely Taxi, 2am; and the raucous singalong of Eugene Kelly’s Chips and Cheese, a homage to Glasgow’s after-hours meal of choice." - ★★★★ The Guardian Director: Daniel Warren Production Company: The Arches / Biphonic Records Original film running time: 55 minutes Country: United Kingdom Release Date: Thu 23 Aug 2012
