Shape Note Songs from The Missouri Harmony, 2005 edition

60 videos • 2,769 views • by PLBrayfield The Missouri Harmony was a widely used tunebook on the American frontier from the 1820's through 30's. The original book contained many songs in common with the later, even more popular book, The Sacred Harp (first published in 1844). In 2005, a group of shape note enthusiasts in the St. Louis vicinity put out a new edition, containing the songs NOT included in The Sacred Harp, plus several songs, old and new, in the authentic early American shape note tradition. The videos on this list were recorded at recent Sacred Harp/shape note singings and conventions in Missouri and the midwest.
