In the second half of the seventies, there was in the United States of America a new craze among disckjockeys, called "mixing". Instead of presenting, as one that initially on the radio used to do including the spoken word through the microphone, the discos were henceforth the plates mixed together instead of talking to each other. Professional disc jockeys sent their mixes to the Soul Show and the (fictional) "Bond Of By Starters" thus became a permanent part of the program. Over time amateurs could also submit their own mixes, the term "het leger van thuisbeoefenaren" (the army of home practitioners) was used for them.
