With this in mind, it is critical for Liberia that long term goals are set for its societal, economic, and governance structures; paving the way towards lasting peace, reconstruction and development. In an effort to set these long term goals the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, Governance Commission and the National Vision 2030 administrative structures, has initiated a national discussion asking five, basic questions; Where do we come from as a people? Where are we now? Where may we go? Where do we want to go? How do we get there? What is the National Vision 2030? National Vision 2030 is a process through which, the people of Liberia will set the roadmap for addressing the social, political and economic challenges that confront and will confront Liberia over the next 18-years. Through a series of studies which have already been undertaken, possible future scenarios were constructed. A broad idea of the visioning process was presented to the Liberian people by the President of Liberia through the Regional Consultations. And the future possible scenarios will be presented to the people of Liberia through the district consultations process, wherein the people of Liberia will have the opportunity to examine the scenarios and with their input and suggestions the best possible scenario with the combination of goals, objectives and methodologies decided upon by the Liberian people will be incorporated into a National Vision document. The National Vision 2030 will be for the people, by the people and of the people; setting and defining the parameters of - political, economic and social development - for building a reconciled and unified nation. A nation envisioned where citizens share a strong sense of national identity and community, commitment to ethical governance, and government partnership in pursuit of national development goals. The visioning exercise belongs to the Liberian people and as such, the people of Liberia will set the agenda. How will the National Vision 2030 be successful? • Transcend partisanship, sectarian interests and regional divisions. • All Liberians participate and take ownership of the Exercise • Elevate the National Vision 2030 as a national platform that is non-partisan and all-inclusive. • Allow a more inclusive, people centred process than has been used in the past for setting our Development Agendas. • No citizen should be disadvantaged as a result of gender, age, religion, ethnic origin or political opinions.
