2011-2012 Wasting Light Era
63 videos • 541 views • by FooFightersBootlegs 2010 saw a pretty big departure for the band, as they really didn't play many shows, with only one appearance in February of that year and then a couple more at the end of the year. Dave Grohl started the year still touring for Them Crooked Vultures with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, which he'd done for a lot of 2009 as well. Along with Dave touring with a different band, Foo Fighters were also recording a new album, Wasting Light. Not only was an album being made, but so was a documentary, Back and Forth. In my opinion, it's a great documentary that not only talks about the history of Foo Fighters, but also has Dave, Pat Smear and Butch Vig talking about Nirvana. Krist Novoselic also appears in the documentary as he was present on the song I Should Have Known from the album. Towards the end of 2010, a show was held by the band to celebrate the completion of the album and also to play a few songs from the album. Touring for the album officially began in 2011, the band started out playing the whole album in full which they hadn't done before, so the whole album gets a nice amount of love. Performances from the band during this time were great and everyone was in top shape. Dave's voice was really strong, with some great screams, and the whole band really put in some extra effort with all of the old songs played during this tour. Alone + Easy Target, Exhausted, Butterflies, Winnebago, all songs that were played on this tour and all of them are very old, not often played. Winnebago's first performance on this tour was the first time most of the band had even played it since it hadn't been played since 1996, it's genuinely super impressive. Lots of musical guests too during this time. The most common was Bob Mould, who appeared on the song Dear Rosemary on the album and played the song with the band a number of times during this era. Lemmy also played with the band a few times, providing vocals for the Probot track Shake Your Blood. Also appearing were Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen, to play Tie Your Mother Down during the iTunes Festival. That show also saw the very famous moment of Dave throwing out some people who were fighting. Overall, this time period was very very solid. The whole band did a great job, and they even managed to stick with a consistent band line up this time around, I think a first for the band.
