Reading Festival Performances

They played here in 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2019, potentially more than any other mainstream festival, and definitely more than the UK's other big festival, that being Glastonbury, at which the band only played twice, for 1998 and 2017. The band would always do something special for Reading and have some history with it. In 1995, the band were booked to play the second smaller tent, and demand was so high to hear what Dave was doing now that he was no longer in Nirvana that the band were asking to headline the main stage last minute, though they declined. Multiple people ended up being injured, and Dave had to tell people repeatedly to be respectful of others. For 1998, the concert would be the last one the band would play with their then guitarist Franz Stahl, who had played with Dave in Scream before Dave had even joined Nirvana. Of course by the time the band returned to stages in 1999, they'd be with their permanent guitarist Chris Shifflet. 2012 Reading had the band play Alone + Easy Target, Winnebago, Exhausted, all songs the band hadn't played for years beforehand, and of course 2019 had Dave Rickrolling the entire audience live by having Rick Astley himself perform a special rendition of Never Gonna Give You Up. Overall, each Reading performance has something special, and I would recommend them all.
