Let's Translate Defiant of Shrine Maiden

If anyone can teach me how to actually insert the English text into the game itself, please let me know. --- I've made documents related to the translation. Here are the most recent links for them. Translation Notes http://www.mediafire.com/view/?8ek5od... Spell Card Translations http://www.mediafire.com/view/?ncuv6m... --- For those who don't know, Defiant of Shrine Maiden is an unusual fan-made Touhou RPG made by Hachikuma. The game has excellent music and humor (I uploaded the soundtrack already), and it has some genuinely good gameplay ideas. However, the game is very difficult, to the extent that its difficulty occasionally borders on sadism toward the player. The game starts easy, but it gets more and more challenging the deeper you go, unless you know about the handful of tricks that completely break the game's challenge. Also, there are some balancing issues, and because of the high difficulty, it quickly becomes necessary to use optimized equipment setups, eliminating a lot of the fun and freedom of customizing your abilities just the way you'd like. Only skilled RPG players need apply. Oh, and the game is only in Japanese, which could be an issue for some people. I'm attempting to partially solve one of these problems by translating the text in this game. I am focusing on translating the cutscene dialogue, which I will post in video format through annotations. I unfortunately have no idea how to actually integrate the text into the game itself, but if someone could teach me how, I would be happy to attempt to make an English patch or English version or what-have-you. I'm actually translating ability and equipment names and descriptions on the side, just in case. For now, at least, people can finally have an idea of what is happening through the plot by watching these videos. --- Let me explain how a "let's translate" works. Using my mediocre, not-quite-fluent Japanese skills, I have attempted to translate the text in this game, which can be viewed in annotations in each video. Next, if you have some knowledge of Japanese, you can tell me what I've mistranslated, if you would like. Then, I can make modifications appropriately. Doing this, we can make a pretty good translation of this as-of-yet-untranslated game. Of course, if you don't know any Japanese, feel free to just watch. My Japanese knowledge is mediocre, but I'm pretty confident that my translations are at least relatively accurate in terms of what is going on. Important note: when I translate, I prioritize style and readability over precise accuracy. If a portion would translate awkwardly over to English, or if it references something that almost no one outside of Japan would understand, I may make changes accordingly. I guess you could call this a localization more than a translation. That said, there is a pretty good chance that I may have completely missed the point of some passages, so let me know if anything sounds too weird. Make extra sure to turn annotations on when you want to read the translations. (They should be enabled by default, unless you are viewing the video on a device that does not support annotations.) If you want to read the original Japanese text, turn off the annotations. Videos will be named according to what "chapter" the cutscenes typically play in. (There can be some variation, depending on the order in which you clear dungeons.) In the game, once you enter a given dungeon for the first time, you can see the name of a chapter when you open the main menu. These are the chapter names that I will be using. --- Note that translating the in-game text, recording the gameplay section on my computer, and typing out all of the translations into annotations takes quite a long time. As a result, do not worry if there is a fairly large gap in between translation videos. I never give up on a project once I have started it. However, real life demands often render me unable to do video-related work, and the sheer length of setting up a translation video means that not only does it take a long time to make one, but making one will typically make me tired enough that I will need to wait a few days before I have the energy to work on the next installment. (Odd fact: typing the text into the annotations is probably the hardest part. I actually have text translated up to several chapters beyond the most recently posted video, but it simply takes forever to type out all of the annotations and set the display time to be just right for each one.) Also, all gameplay segments were recorded by me while playing my copy of the game. Feel free to chastise me for my mediocre video game skills, if you like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you for watching my videos!
