In the 1880's a curious artifact was unearthed in the Manchester area. It was so weird that it was thought by many to be from outer space. This 10cm x 6.4cm metallic cuboid remained a mystery for 100 years. It was only due to the wide availablility of the Sony Walkman that the true nature of this strange object was revealed. This so-called 'Space Cassette' contained sounds that had never been heard on planet Earth... Upon hearing this cosmic music, a group of musicians inluding Manchester's Age of Glass and Xylanthian aliens, Henge, hatched a plan to record and send a joint reply to this attempted communication. It is to this end that they will be holding the first 'Space Cassette' night. Starting at sunset the rituals will include live performances by both of the bands accompanied by the ceremonial dancing of a select cross-section of enlightened ticket holders. The music will continue until sunrise including performances by Walk, Marc Constantine and various cosmically inspired DJ sets. A closing ceremony will take place at sunrise in which a cassette tape of music and messages that have been recorded throughout the evening will be sent up via weather balloon to space. On board the craft will be a Walkman, headphones and a set of instructions on how to play the contents of the tape.
