My name is Yoshiko Goto. I'm an artisan of Kaketsugi.
My shop is called kaketsugi-koubou ORIWAGIKEN. It is in Minokamo City, Gifu-ken Japan.
What is Kaketsugi?
It is a technique to restore damaged clothing. By recreating the structure of a fabric we can make holes or tears disappear. If you have a beloved piece of clothing that carries many memories and your tailor said he can't fix it, let us try. Many customers have been amazed.
Maybe it is an antique kimono with a bad tear. Maybe it is a sweatshirt that ripped at the seams. Maybe it is an expensive suit with a cigarette burn. Whatever it is, we will try our best. We begin where others give up!
I learned Kaketsugi from my father, the great artisan, Tessyu Kataoka.
We have been featured in Asahi Shimbum and on television news. In May, 2019, I travelled to New York City to demonstrate at The Japan Society. Please watch the video of my demonstration on YouTube.
We look forward to hearing from you.
