There I was, sitting in my English class as a high school sophomore in Milwaukee during the early 1970s, and the guest speaker was Bill Dwyre, the sports editor of the Milwaukee Journal.
That’s when I wanted to be a sports journalist.
I’ve gone from working for my high school newspaper back then to becoming a national sports columnist and commentator these days.
What a country, indeed.

— Has a segment every Sunday night in Atlanta on a highly rated show called Sports Zone on WSB-TV (Channel 2), the most-watched ABC affiliate in the country.
— Appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show after a personal call from Oprah and spent five years as a regular panelist on “Rome Is Burning” for ESPN.
— Is featured on numerous shows by NFL Films.
— Spent 32 years working for major newspapers (Cincinnati Enquirer, San Francisco Examiner, Atlanta Journal-Con
