About

FCisNotScience is dedicated to bringing awareness to the problem of cuing in a discredited facilitator-reliant technique called "Facilitated Communication" (also popularly known as Spelling to Communicate and Rapid Prompting Method).

Facilitators, though well-meaning, provide physical, auditory, and visual cues that (inadvertently) influence their clients' interaction with the letter board or keyboard.

Prompts include, but are not limited to: changes in vocal inflection, head nods and body gestures, hand signals, tugging on a shirt sleeve, or moving a letter board held in the air.

To date, there are no reliably controlled studies to prove proponent claims of independent communication, with many organizations opposing its use (some links provided below).

Systematic reviews, controlled studies, opposition statements and other resources are available at www.facilitatedcommunication.org
