Riau Ecosystem Restoration (RER) is a multi-party project to restore and protect 150,000 hectares of peatland in Sumatra, Indonesia. Backed by a US$100m contribution from pulp and paper company APRIL Group and supported by NGOs Fauna & Flora (FFI), Bidara and The Nature Conservancy, RER is protecting this important ecosystem and the communities around it.
Through a 60-year eco-restoration license granted by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, RER will take on an integrated scientific approach to the protection and restoration work, while simultaneously collaborating with local communities to complement existing conservation initiatives on the Kampar Peninsula.
