UBC’s Animal Welfare Program was created in 1997 with the mission “to improve the lives of animals through research, education, and outreach”. The program is located in UBC’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems. It began through the support of the BC SPCA, Dairy Farmers of Canada, the BC Veterinary Medical Association, and many other partner organizations together with matching funds from Canada’s Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of and donations from many individuals.
Our research program consists of a wide range of scientific projects to improve the management, housing and handling of farm, companion, laboratory, and wild animals.
