She recorded for Decca, RPM and Capitol in the US. Donna left the US in 1959 for some performance dates in Europe and wouldn't again live in the US until 1990, when she moved to Austin, Texas. While in Europe, her career reached a peak with her 1972 hit recording, "This World Today is a Mess," which has sold more than 7,000,000 copies internationally. She was comfortable with virtually any genre, including blues, jazz, rock, pop, disco and gospel. Her last public performance was at Buda United Methodist Church in Buda, Texas on August 18, 2013. Donna Hightower died on August 19, 2013 at her home in Austin, Texas.
