Welcome to my Youtube channel about the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and ethnomusicology!
It will show videos with interviews of shakuhachi players and researchers, performances, and shakuhachi making. The shakuhachi is a Japanese bamboo flute, which has a colourful history since it was a tool of spiritual training for mendicant Zen Buddhist monks, the komusō of Fuke Sect. My interest is to share high quality knowledge about the shakuhachi and the people who play this wonderful instrument to the international shakuhachi community. It is for the love of the shakuhachi, and the players that were before us and to those who will come after us.
I am an ethnomusicologist, researching shakuhachi. I am most excited about researching what shakuhachi means to people playing it today, and also newer history. I am also a performer of jinashi shakuhachi in Zensabo style. I am grateful to my teacher Okuda Atsuya for everything he has taught me. I am a researcher at Goldsmiths, Uni of London.
