The Film Music Foundation (FMF), a nonprofit California Public Benefit Corporation, promotes appreciation of the art and craft of film music through education, filmed interviews, scholarly research and writing, and film scoring workshops for students.
The FMF was founded in 2001 by composers Elmer Bernstein and Herschel Burke Gilbert, with the assistance of attorney Les T. Zador, son of orchestrator Eugene Zador. A dedicated group of composers, historians and other film music professionals were invited to join the board. Our funds are used to support film-scoring workshops, lectures and conferences; preserve and catalogue historic scores for further study; and subsidize research, writings, and multimedia endeavors focused on film-music genres, topics and individuals. We invite you to browse our website and, if qualified, apply for a grant by following the Guidelines in the Funding section.
