GEMCO, a 40 acre yard that has been in operation since the mid-20th century and serves as a key hub for the UP's Los Angeles Basin Operations.
The yard, owned by the Southern Pacific, (and later in 1996, by the Union Pacific)
spans 40 acres, includes a main track, classification track, storage track, engine storage track, and a car repair track.
The yard handles various types of cargo, including, but not limited to:
- Automobiles
-Agricultural products
-Chemicals
-Lumber
-Steel
Trains regularly work to sustain the San Fernando Valley and more up north with it's local trains that arrive every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. The locals then return from Guadalupe and Oxnard, with the addition of 2 locals that work at the majority of SCAX's AV sub, occasionally with a caboose. Another train supplies GEMCO with cars from San Bernardino, and back.
The yard provides a range of services, such as:
- Railcar & engine maintenance
- Cargo handling & storage for other cars
- Crew Changes
