Even a casual glance at the Victoria, BC-based harpist Julia Cunningham’s resume will elicit a double take. Hailing from Saskatoon, SK, Julia’s course in life was set as a youngster when, at her very first harp lesson, her seemingly instinctive teacher told Julia she could become a professional harpist. And, as if destined, that’s exactly what happened.
Consequently, Julia’s life as a musician has taken her all over the world, to appear at some of the most famous concert halls on earth. She has won awards galore, and performed for princes, a pope, and Oprah Winfrey. She played for years with Solomon Burke, and multiple times with Luciano Pavarotti. Julia has also performed on UK TV with Chrissie Hynde and, in Burke’s touring ensemble, opened for Van Morrison and The Rolling Stones.
Now, following six albums of beautiful instrumental music, encouragement from the great “King Solomon” has led to Julia unveiling her first jazz vocal album, Songs from the Harp.
