Cousins Ivan and Philippe created Rocafort Records in 2013, an independent label dedicated to editing and re-releasing songs that had previously gone unnoticed or simply never seen the light of day.
Specialising in funk, soul, R&B, afro and latin boogaloo Rocafort Records deal in highly collectable vinyl nuggets for collectors, DJs and dancers worldwide. Their strength lies in the research, sniffing out those rare floor-filler gems that lie gathering dust on remote shelves in Africa, Latin America, New Orleans or in the thrift shops of Pennsylvania. Their tentative first release (Johnny Zamot) sold out in two months, giving them the va-va-voum to continue unearthing quality music among the new and old.
Among their supporters are DJs as varied as Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles, Skeme Richards, Nik Weston, as well as magazine like Wax Poetics or specialised websites like Fleamarketfunk.com – all unanimous that Rocafort releases are relevant to today’s musical landscape.
