Tools of my trade :) I use 2 mechanical pencils, 1 with a 2B lead and 1 with an HB lead. I also use 6 and 4B pencils for darker shading .
Mechanical pencils are brilliant for the finer detail when drawing hair, as they stay consistently sharp.
To blend, I use a simple q-tip cotton bud but you can buy a blending tool called a tortillon.
