Evanescence:
(The act of disappearing or vanishing slowly) Was formed by Amy Lynn(Lee) Hartzler Born December 13, 1981 and Ben Moody. Ben Moody met Amy Lee at camp and was impressed by her rendition of the classics on the piano. They wrote songs and music together through out High School and performed small gigs as a duo.At this stage of their career they could not afford a full band so most of the music was pre-programed by Moody.
Finally they put together a demo CD called "Origin" and were eventually signed by Wind Up Records Incorporated. Wind Up Records signed John LeCompt, Rocky Gray and Will Boyd to fill the band.
The group recorded their first studio CD "Fallen" which went on to sell more than fourteen million copies world wide, it was one of only fifty Albums in history to spend more than a year in the top one hundred and was nominated for four Grammy's winning two of the four nominations. Two songs from Fallen (My Immortal and Bring me to Life) were featured on the Daredevil soundtrack.
The CD "Fallen" started to show up on Christian record store shelves but Lee wanted no part of the christian recording scene. The stores were reluctant to remove the CD's from their shelves but when the band used profane language during interviews the CD's quickly disappeared from the stores. When Lee was asked to classify their music she said it is a mixture of Metal, classical and rock not Christian, Gothic or Emo but that still did not stop the Goth and Emo cults from embracing Amy Lee and Evanescence as their own!
During a European tour in 2003 Ben Moody left the group inciting "Creative Differences" and was replaced with Terry Balsamo (former Cold member). Amy Lee and Terry Balsamo went on to Co-write their next project "The Open Door".The Open Door did not score the huge numbers in sales as did Fallen but was considered a huge success and went on to Multi Platinum Status as did their live CD/DVD "Anywhere But Home" Live in Paris. The DVD featured Evanescence's life on the road and bloopers.
Other members of Evanescence started to leave the Group or were fired for Various reasons. On July 14, 2006 bassist Will Boyd had left the band because he did not want to be away from his family and was replaced by Tim McCord. On May 4, 2007, John LeCompt announced that he had been fired from Evanescence and Rocky Gray had Quit, being replaced by Troy McLawhorn and Will Hunt. As of 2009 the Band is in studio working on their next project due to be released sometime in 20
